Provision of Cost Advisor services to this Trust client in their ambitious plans for the redevelopment of the St Catherine’s Hospital site in Birkenhead. The project is to replace the current outdated buildings into a modern, purpose-built community hospital that will facilitate the delivery of the PCT’s strategic commissioning objectives.
The project has a current budget in the order of £32m, with the Trust funding the main facility, and a Third Party Funding organisation financing the General Practice and General Medical Services elements.
The new facility provides a wide range of medical services, including:
- Diagnostics
- Intermediate Care Services
- Independent Living, therapy and rehabilitation
- Pulmonary rehabilitation
- Outpatients
- Womens Services
- Minor surgery/Day theatre
- Specialist Nursing
- GP Services
- Community mental health facilities
- Dental
- Administrative, training and conference facilities
- Other support services
The hospital has been required to be fully operational throughout the project, so decanting and phasing have been key considerations. The new development is to be placed on the existing car park, with demolition of existing buildings taking place once all new facilities are complete.
